Introduction
The first program I wrote was back in 1969 at Rolls Royce. I had a bit of spare time so amused myself programming a very large calculator to solve quadratic equations.
I joined IBM as a Systems Engineer in 1974, well before the birth of IBM PC. I switched to sales, less technical but more money so I could retire early (2000) and play. This web site is to record some of my experiences mainly as I always forget how I did things when I need to do them again and also may be of help to others. |
Brief History
My first PC supplied to me by IBM as an alternative to a simple terminal was delivered with all the memory chips, this was well before DIMMs, in a separate bag and I had to install all these beatle like objects before I could load the operating system from the 360KB drive, no hard drives on this machine. I later was given a PC AT for my own use, and hey this had a 10MB hard drive!
Then came the ThinkPad era, when all of us field people were given the latest model every 2 years. Ah what excitement to unwrap an ever more powerful notebook.
Now as I approach 20 years since retiring from IBM we are an all Apple family with just an old Intel i3 laptop to check compatibility.
